Jacques Barraband  (1768-1809)

Jacques Barraband is a renowned bird painter in the world.

"Painter of Birds of Napoleon . "

He was born on 31 August 1768 in Aubusson in the Creuse, where his father owned an upholstery shop. Died at Lyons in 1809.
Jacques Barraband began attending D    rawing School of Aubusson  before going for further training in Paris. He was a student of Joseph Mâlain (1745-1809), artist of the Gobelins. Painter at the Gobelins, providing drawings for the Manufacture de Sèvres. Professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Lyon.

Barraband, in line with animal artist, has painted some beautiful oils became porcelain plates. It combines scientific accuracy and artistic perfection in hundreds of watercolors gouachées representative parrots, birds of paradise, toucans.

Jacques Barraband was a French Barraband zoological illustrator. He produced a series of watercolors of flowers and birds between 1801 and 1804 by direct commission of Napoleon Bonaparte. He also provided the illustrations for François Le Vaillant's Histoire Naturelle parrots.

Barraband has made hundreds of watercolors of birds and flowers. He illustrated the wonderful books folio Levaillant François (1753-1826): Natural History of Parrots. Many boards for natural history books.
